While #GivingTuesday is a global generosity initiative, there are plenty of opportunities in our local area to give and participate in.

Starting Tuesday, Philadelphia will light up a 27-foot seasonal installation in the middle of Christmas Village at LOVE Park in honor of #GivingTuesday. Donations up to $5,000 each made in the Present between #GivingTuesday and New Year’s Day will be made to Project HOPE or the Fairmount Park Conservancy and matched by Bank of America.

The installation has more than 10,000 lights and does a personalized light show every time someone walks through and makes a donation inside the giant gift box.

And early Saturday morning, 1st Not Next and Allegiance to Change gave more than $7,000 to give some children an in-store shopping spree downtown to get coats, hats or whatever they need this holiday season. Volunteers from Alpha Phi Alpha and Alpha Kappa Alpha served as “personal shoppers” for the more than 150 children.
