The men of the Gamma Chi Omega Delaware County Alumni Chapter commemorated the chartering of its new chapter. To mark its public debut, a host of family, friends, public officials, and members of the Divine Nine of the National Pan-Hellenic Council were “Out & About” for the very special occasion. The charter ceremony was held on June 7 at the historic Media Mansion in Media, Pa.

Leon T. Troy Jr. said, “As a lifetime member and the polaris (president) of this chapter, I am elated. We finally see the fruits of our labor come to fruition. The expansion of the fraternity’s footprint into Delaware County allows us to not only bring service initiatives to the area, but provide the community with men who are willing to give back to the village that molded and groomed them into the men they are today.”

Officers serving with Troy are: 1st Vice Polaris Scott Seward; 2nd Vice Polaris Lenny Washington; Secretary Duane Buchanan; Treasurer Jermaine L. Colon and Sergeant-at-arms Walter Washington.

Some of the enthusiastic supporters “Out & About” included Kristy Lopez, Sharron Anderson, Rocky Brown, Tanya O’Neill, Katrina Lambert, Beverly Hudson, Monique Everly-Buchanan, Steven Moultrie, Lakisha Watson, Anais Mahone and Anthony Calderone.

Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc. was founded in 1963 at Morgan State University. The Gamma Chi Omega Delaware County Alumni Chapter was officially chartered on Tuesday April 2, 2019. This chapter was chartered to serve and expand Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc. in Delaware County, Pa.

The newly chartered chapter is comprised of eight dynamic men of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc. They include Leon T. Troy Jr., Jermaine L. Colon, Scott Seward, Lenny Washington, Duane Buchanan, Walter Washington, Jerome Jackson and Xavier Ghaskin. These men are known to represent the outstanding standards of the fraternity.

The Gamma Chi Omega Chapter has been recognized by National and Regional leadership for their participation and contributions to vital community service initiatives. They include St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, All of Us Research Program, The American Red Cross, The Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia, and numerous community outreach efforts in Delaware County.

Gamma Chi Omega Delaware County Alumni Chapter is committed to continuing the work of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc. This will be accomplished by continuing to provide support for the national initiatives mentioned above and more. They will also support the community that they serve by providing community health informational programs on diabetes and financial literacy for adults and children. A toiletry drive to support the homeless in underserved areas in Delaware County is also planned.

The Gamma Chi Omega Chapter also works diligently to establish and maintain strong relationships in the community focuses on partnership networking as a significant priority. The men of Gamma Chi Omega will also continue to build partnerships with local members of the NPHC and Chester Inter-Greek Council.
